This week as been a week of trying to find balance between different job roles, between different needs and objectives and been work and home. Not sure I got it all right and it was stressful, but I enjoyed it.

  • ๐ŸŽ๏ธ - Project-R2 continues at it’s usual pace. I enjoy playing in the big leagues but sometimes it feels like being two children on each others shoulders inside a trench coat. This week’s focus was on planning 2027. Looking at all the projects, what priority, what engineers and skills will be required and where we’ll need to hire to cope. It’s actually pretty exciting when you take a few minutes to stand back and look at it - the trick is to have that few minutes.

  • ๐Ÿข - This week involved time in the office for the bi-annual Town hall meeting for all UK staff. I was presenting a portion of this, which is fine and pretty normal, but what made it interesting was this was the first one we had done with our 6DG colleagues. The office was pretty packed and there were folks working in the kitchen, in meeting rooms, curl up in chairs in hall ways. We’ve been a big business for a while but this reminded me of being at a start-up again and it was pretty exciting.

  • ๐Ÿ“ˆ - Along side the town hall sessions, this was also another week of our management meetings. A tricky one right now because of Project-R2 and 6DG, but we’re making good progress. The biggest challenge discussed is being able to achieve all these bigger projects and balancing the effective management of our existing other customers. What a great problem to have - but a problem none the less.

  • โ˜๏ธ - As a small aside, there have started to be a few early conversations with other cloud providers like IBM and Oracle. Not something we do in huge amounts, but we’re now getting to a size and operation where these relationships become more interesting. Nothing significant yet, but one to watch.
