This week was shaped by one day: my second day of leadership training. It meant the whole week, and perhaps several week after will be about reflection and improvements on myself and my leadership.

  • ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ - Tuesday was the second day of facilitated leadership training by the team at Wonderful Brilliant, having started the first day last month. I’ll be honest, having done a lot of coaching before I came into the training expecting to not learn much and spend my time observing the rest of the team and learning more about them. While I certainly achieved that expected outcome, I also came away with a lot to reflect on regarding my own leadership and thinking about certain topics that I hadn’t really give much attention to since the last time I had coaching. I will say this now - I love coaching, I think it’s very powerful for any leader at whatever level to have the support of someone external that can provide a fresh perspective on things. I need to do this more.

  • </> - Triggered by a customer conversation, I also had a few meetings and conversations this week about infrastructure-as-code and the respective tools, approaches and ecosystems. Given that this is something foundational to how we operate every day and part of my own technical background, I really enjoyed this conversations. It was surprising that even in 2026 people are still having challenges choosing the right tools and scaling those tools to more complex environments. It’s also refreshing to realise that despite all the tools available and what AI can now achieve, the basic principles of choosing the most boring tool and the most simple solution is always the one that wins out.

  • ๐Ÿ‰ - Last weekend I managed to get tot the last Harlaquins women’s game of the season, where my daughter got a few more pictures and signatures from the team and got to meet Elie Kildunne for what turned out to be her last official time as a member of the team (even though she wasn’t playing that day). It was great also to see a few other professional players from other teams in the crowd to support them. I’m attending the PWR final at the end of the month which I expect to be just as enjoyable as this was.
